Cover Letters and Resumes
The cover letter and resume are an employer's introduction to a prospective employee before they actually meet. This web site gives advice about writing cover letters and resumes. Visit the web site to answer the questions. Web site: http://www.resume-resource.com Question 1: The site has several articles on how to write successful cover letters. Read at least one of the articles. Tell us what article you read and the author's name. What are some of the points the author makes about creating winning cover letters? Question 2: What are some reasons you need a resume? What are some mistakes people make in creating a resume? Refer to at least one article on the web site when giving your answer, and not the same article from Question 1. For your response to student (a) only respond to one student and (b) pick someone that read a different article then you. Workplace Privacy
The Privacy Rights Clearinghouse, established in 1992 in California, is a nonprofit consumer organization that aims to provide consumer information and consumer advocacy. Read its fact sheet entitled "Employee Monitoring: Is There Privacy in the Workplace?" Then answer the questions. Suggested keywords: workplace privacy Web site: http://www.privacyrights.org/fs/fs7-work.htm Then answer the following questions: 1. What is keystroke monitoring, and how is it used in the workplace? 2. What gives employers the legal right to monitor employees' phone calls, e-mail messages, and Internet use? When responding to other students pick someone you agree with and someone you disagree with. Explain to them why you agree or disagree. If you disagree try to persuade them to agree with you. In your Communicating for Success book you will see an article "In Search of a Majority" by James Baldwin on page 64-65. You will also find the article on the "Digitools 9 Files" web page. Read this article (you can check out a book after school and return the beginning of school the next day), and then respond to the following questions: (150+ words)
1. Define the word conundrums in your own words. 2. Define the word majority in your words. How does that relate to the how Mr. Baldwin describes majority? 3. In your life is there a group or a person that you think holds the majority? If so how does that majority compare to the sentence definition of majority? Sentence definition - greater number of people or things When responding to another student - be sure to read the handout given last week about quality responses. To strengthen your communication skills here are some questions to ask yourself in order to determine how effectively you communicate:
Over the week think about these questions while in school, practice, home, or interacting with friends. Then give a reflection on the 5 questions, and then rate your level of communication. Tell us how you could improve your communication using the five questions above. For your response to your peers include comments about what they do well of the 5 questions and also one area that you think they could improve on and why. Remember we are giving constructive criticism so our comments are not mean, hurtful, or rude. On September 11, 2011 we celebrated the 10 year anniversary of a major United States tragedy, and for some this will be a day they lost everything and for others a day they realized everything. All though you were possible 4 or 5 this was a day that needs to be remembered and taught about in the history of our country.
In the blog for this week I want you to reflect on what you can remember about that day or what your parents remember about that day. Then reflect on what the day has done for the USA and your family, have things changed from 2001 to 2011 and also reflect on what you think about this day and its personal significances to you or others. I want honesty but respect for others feelings as well. Your initial response should be 200 words. I am not requiring a peer response this week, but if you read another students post and feel there is something you want to post in a reflection for that student you can earn extra credit points for your reflections. Using a search engine locate a website that talks about the history of the computer. Read the site and write a 150 word summary of the information in that site. Also include if you think that the site gives you reliable information and if you would recommend someone doing research on computers to use this site. In your response first provide the URL for that site, then your summary.
For your reply to other students pick 2 students that have different sites and read their sites and then give one interesting fact that you learned from that site. Also tell them if you agree or disagree with their opinion on the site being reliable and why. The first comment under this post will be an example of a response, you CANNOT use the same website or reply to my Example. RSI - the reason that we want to use proper typing technique.
So what is RSI? We will watch a video on RSI in class on Tuesday, from that video write a blog to discuss what you learned from the video, and also what area of typing technique you think you need to improve on and why. Your response must be at least 100 words. You will then need to watch other students during the week and provide them feedback on their typing technique. In the feedback be specific and constructive so that the student can learn and change their ways. You can also suggest ways that help you be successful in your technique. You will need to provide feedback for two (2) students and have at least 50 words. Want to watch the video tonight - RSI VIDEO Welcome to Digitools/Business Communication. One of the class assignments that you will complete each week is a reply to the DQ for that week and you will be graded on effort, spelling, grammar, and answering of the questions. You can earn 20 points - 5 points for each area. You have until 11:59pm every Friday to complete the DQ and any alternate posts required. Please be sure to login to post your comments and provide your full name.
For this week - Tell me who you are, what you want to learn in Digitools, how you think your typing speed is compared the average speed for your grade level, and how you think you will learn best in this class. So before school even started today we experenced the first major issue of the year. Students that needed to work on typing lessons came in to work before school and we found that we couldn't open the www.freetypinggame.net site. Students can still access this site at home and finish their 30 lessons, but I did locate another website that the students can do the same lessons, I have posted a list in the classroom to show the 30 lessons and how they coordinate with the new site. The new site iswww.typingweb.com and there are only 6 lessons to complete: Homerow, Top Row, Bottom Row, Basic Punctuation, Numeric Keypad, and Symbols.
ALL Lessons are due Jan 21st. All students in Digitools 9 need to complete the Online Lessons at a 40 wpm and print out their certificate saying they passed the lesson. Students can also save the file instead of printing and then bring to class and print out. To save just click save as and make sure to save on a thumb drive.
Digitools 7 students most have done at least half of the lessons and need to complete at 20 wpm. Again print the certificate or save and print in class. The web address: www.freetypinggame.net - we are then pick lesson. |
AuthorMrs. Miller will use the blog to help students ask questions, remember what we did in class and just a place to discuss class topics. Categories
